Chad, guest of honour at Cameroon's National Day

On 20 May 2026, Cameroon celebrated the 54th edition of its National Unity Day in Yaoundé. For this edition, the Republic of Chad was honoured as the guest of honour of the military and civilian parade, a strong gesture underlining the depth and solidity of the fraternal ties uniting the two neighbouring nations. This distinction builds on a long-standing and multifaceted bilateral cooperation: both countries are members of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and the Multinational Joint Task Force engaged against Boko Haram, and Chad continues to rely on the Cameroonian transit corridor, via the port of Douala, for its access to the sea. Trade between the two countries now exceeds one billion dollars a year. The Embassy of the Republic of Chad in Cameroon welcomes this token of friendship and reaffirms its commitment to continue working, alongside the Cameroonian authorities, to strengthen this bilateral cooperation in the interest of both peoples.
